John McMartin, charged with assault, has his court case held over

Liverpool courthouse

John McMartin former pastor of Inspire Church appeared in Liverpool Local Court today charged with ‘Offence with Act of Indecency’ and Common Assault. He sat quietly in court as the matter was adjourned due to counsel being unavailable.

The charges involve an interaction at his home in Pleasure Point, with a 19-year-old woman while his wife was away overseas. The police evidence is that McMartin “groped” the young woman. (we’re using this term to avoid a graphic description.) He has stood aside from the church as the case proceeds.

Inspire Church is a large multi-campus Pentecostal Church in South West Sydney and McMartin was previously NSW President of the Australian Christian Churches denomination.

McMartin previously plead not guilty at an earlier hearing. He will next appear on November 24th for further oral submissions and possible judgement.
