Christian legal think tank Freedom For Faith is convinced that federal MP Allegra Spender’s bill that would reduce special provisions for religious schools will not pass.
“This bill will not progress.
“That was the Attorney-General’s clear message when [Freedom For Faith’s] Mike Southon met with Michelle Rowland in Canberra this week.
“Allegra Spender’s private member’s bill would weaken the ability of faith-based schools to employ staff who share and live out their faith, especially on questions of gender and sexuality.
“The Government has committed not to legislate in this area without bipartisan support. This bill has the support of neither the Government nor the Coalition.
“It’s an encouragement – and evidence that careful, credible advocacy works. Not every issue needs an email campaign. Sometimes it means explaining the concerns, building trust with decision-makers and securing a clear commitment.
“Thank you for the prayers and support that make these conversations possible. Watch Mike’s update from Parliament House.
In other news, the Tasmanian Conversion Bill has passed the Lower House in an amended form.
