Pastor Andrew Evans (1935-2023) led the Australian Christian Churches denomination through a period of great expansion, planting churches once every three weeks. Under his leadership, the Klemzig Assembly in Adelaide grew from a church of 150 to a church of thousands, now known as Futures Church.

Remembering Andrew Evans: A Legacy of Compassion and Leadership

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Evans, a beloved figure in our community and a man who touched the lives of countless individuals. Andrew, a pastor, General Superintendent, politician, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loving father, left this world on May 25th, 2023, on the Gold Coast, Australia. Born in India on June 17th, 1935, he embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape the lives of many.

Andrew’s story is one of resilience and determination. At the age of 11, he moved to Adelaide to live with his spinster aunt in Parkside, where he pursued his education. While working as a cabinet maker, he completed his schooling at night, laying the foundation for his future endeavors. His path led him to Papua New Guinea, where he dedicated seven years of his life to serving as a church leader, spreading love, and inspiring countless individuals.

In 1970, Andrew returned to Adelaide and took over a small church in Klemzig. Over the next three decades, he nurtured it into the largest church in the state, leaving an enduring mark on the spiritual landscape of South Australia. Andrew’s commitment to his faith and his genuine care for others made him a trusted pastor, providing support and guidance to tens of thousands of people throughout his life.

Andrew’s influence extended beyond the walls of the church. As the General Superintendent of the Australian Christian Churches, he exemplified authentic leadership, known for his humility and integrity. His impact on the spiritual journeys of thousands of individuals cannot be overstated. 

 At age 65, he ventured into politics, where he brought his caring nature and values to the forefront. Andrew served as an MLC and co-founder for Family First, representing the people and advocating for their needs. His colleagues from across the political spectrum respected him for his trustworthiness and ability to keep his word—a rarity in the world of politics. Andrew’s respectful and kind demeanor won him friends on both sides of the aisle, making him a well-liked figure in South Australia’s political landscape.

While Andrew’s professional accomplishments are notable, his personal life was equally remarkable. He was a devoted husband to Lorraine, who tragically lost her battle with cancer in 2011, and later to Del, whom he married in 2013. Andrew cherished his role as a brother, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. His love for his family knew no bounds, and his presence left an indelible mark on their lives.

To his two sons, Ashley and Russell, Andrew was simply Dad – a source of unwavering love, kindness, and inspiration. He instilled courage and resilience in his sons, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today. Andrew’s impact on his family extended far beyond their immediate circle, as his legacy of compassion and leadership touched the hearts of countless others.

Andrew Evans was an exceptional leader – a pioneer of team leadership. He was a hero to the people, known for his unwavering dedication to their well-being. His genuine care for others and his firm belief in the power of faith propelled him forward, making him a force for positive change. Andrew’s legacy is one of kindness, compassion, faith, and courage – a testament to the incredible impact one individual can have on the world.

In recognition of his service to the community, Andrew was awarded an OAM in 2003. This honor reflected the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. His selfless contributions will forever be remembered and cherished.

As we bid farewell to Andrew Evans, we take solace in the knowledge that he has been reunited with his beloved Lorraine in heaven.

My Dad went to heaven yesterday. He was born in India 17th of June 1935 and went to heaven on the Gold Coast Australia 25th May 2023. To 10”s of thousands he was their pastor. To 100’s of thousands he was their General Superintendent and to South Australians he was a representative as politician. He has been referred to as a general, as a legend, as a peoples hero and as a pastor who loved people. He was a husband to my mother Lorraine and for the last 10 years Del. He was a brother to 3 siblings and grandfather and great grandfather. But to me and my brother Ashley he was Dad. Dad it is a honour to be your son. You were kind loving and courageous who has left an indelible mark on the world. You paved a way for us leaving an incredible legacy. I love you Dad you are in heaven with mum thank you for everything I love always your son Russell.
