Churches removed from Baptist Association

Baptist: a baptism at Baptism at Northolt Park Baptist Church, Northolt, UK

As foreshadowed in earlier reports on The Other Cheek, the NSW/ACT Baptist Association has voted to remove two churches from their association.

Canberra Baptist Church removed from denominational association (168 votes to 88.).

Hamilton Baptist Church removed from denominational association (174 votes to 91).

The vote to force the churches to leave was on the basis that the churches were not in alignment with a NSW/ACT Baptist Association position statement defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

The position statement reads: Marriage is a covenant relationship ordained by God as a lifelong faithful union of one man and one woman. Sexual intimacy outside such a marriage relationship is incompatible with God’s intention for us as his people.

Correction: voting numbers ammended.

  1. John, you got the voting numbers mixed. The vote for Canberra’s disaffiliation was 168 votes to 88. The vote for Hamilton’s disaffiliation was 174 votes to 91. I was personally very disappointed but not really surprised
