Real Estate Company CBRE has the Koorong West Ryde Store in Sydney for sale, which also includes the Koorong bookstore HQ.
The ad has been popping up in Facebook feeds as part of the publicity campaign for the sale.
However, readers should NOT read it as a fire sale of Koorong assets by the Bible Society, the owner of Koorong, which recently reported a $7m loss due to problems with a Koorong computerisation project.
When the Bible Society purchased Koorong from the founding family, the Bootes, who once loved in Kooromg Street and started the store in the family garage, they brought the business not the properties from which it trades.
Two of the key properties retained by the Bootes family were the Koorong Warehouse in Western Sydney and the former pub, which was converted into the West Ryde store with the HQ upstairs.
So put the sale down to co-incidence.
It would not be surprising if the West Ryde Store one day shifts into the Bible Society property in Macquarie Park, a few kilometres away, when an existing seven-year lease to Hillsong finishes (assuming there are no options allowing Hillsong to extend that lease.)
