National Sorry Day 2025 – A Call to Listen, Lament, and Love

Aboriginal Flag

A post by the Anglican Board of Mission

Theme – “We cannot wait another generation”

On 26 May 2025, we mark 28 years since the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in Parliament—revealing the heartbreaking truths of the Stolen Generations. This day invites us, as followers of Christ:

to pause,
to remember,
and to respond.

As we enter National Reconciliation Week, we not only reflect on our nation’s history but also on the role we as churches and Christians have played in causing deep hurt. We lament this legacy and commit ourselves to the ongoing work of truth-telling, healing, and justice.

Reconciliation is not just a week—it’s a daily calling.

📖

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8

May this week stir in us not just remembrance, but repentance —and a renewed resolve to walk in step with First Nations peoples, led by love, humility, and the Spirit of Christ.

🙏

 Let’s:

✔️

Reflect and pray for healing and justice

✔️

Listen to the voices of Stolen Generations survivors

✔️

 Educate ourselves and our churches

✔️

Advocate for truth, reparation, and systemic change

“As an Aboriginal Pastor, I can’t ignore the pain of my Aboriginal brothers and sisters. National Sorry Day is a time to listen with our hearts, lament the injustice, and act justly as Christ calls us too. One KBH survivor said, ‘We had no names, just numbers’—a heartbreaking reminder of the dehumanising systems many Aboriginal children were forced into. As people of faith, we must stand in truth and love, and never look away.”
