Prophecy failures, as conservative preachers get midterm election wrong

“We are the kings. We are the ones who rule” Preacher Andrew Womack told an October “Truth and Liberty” conference in October at Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs, a conservative area of Colorado, a local website Colorado News Online reports. “And when we don’t vote, then we allow those with different values — we increase their power. It’s Christians that have allowed this nation to go the way that it is.”

At the same conference, Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert told the crowd in an hour-long speech “God is on our side. The blood has been applied… We are going straight into victory. You are all more than conquerors through God, through Christ who strengthens you every step of the way.”

Boebert may yet win back her seat in what turned out to be a close election in her congressional district. The predicted “red wave” of Republican victories did not occur in the 2022 elections despite President Biden’s low approval ratings, high inflation and pollsters finding most Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. The predicted massive majority in the House of Representatives became a trickle, with a smallish majority of seats for the conservative Republicans. In a real shock result, the Democrats retained the Senate.

In a replay of prophecies of Trump winning in 2020, Christians who claimed a turnaround victory for the conservatives were proved wrong.

In a clip that went viral from the conference, and has since led to a lot of mockery, Boebert tied the election to the return of Christ.

“We know that we are in the last of the last days … It’s not a time to get upset about it. It’s a time to know that you were called to be a part of these last days. You get to have a role in ushering in the second coming of Jesus.”

Author Eric Metaxas gave a speech at the conference, comparing “precisely what happened in Germany” to “happening here now, because of the silence of many, if not most, Christian leaders.”

Americans really ramp up their rhetoric as elections approach – there will have been left-wing speech that was extreme as well.

But there is an issue when predictions are made about electoral victory in the name of Christ. It sadly brings gospel preaching into disrepute

.

Abel Praise who claims to carry out a prophetic and apostolic ministry published a prophecy on Youtube, proclaiming Donald Trump as an anointed kingmaker, a common theme for the prophets.

The midterm election results proved this to be exactly wrong, with many republicans now suggesting that poor candidates endorsed by Trump led to their underperformance against an unpopular President’s team.:

“The very first thing I shared about Donald Trump pointing people to who to vote, speaks of something, an anointing of a King Maker upon Donald Trump; and how that he will be used to show people who to vote for.

“There is an anointing of a King Maker coming upon him, and The LORD will use that to direct the hearts and minds of people they are to vote for.

“When he was sharing with the people who to vote for, it was with the intention that, he will be able to use the anointing of a King Maker to stir up a new generation of leadership that will advance righteous purposes in the Nation of The United States of America.

“After then, the battles in the halls of Congress, was as though who will take the lead [sic].

“A lot of votings were taking place, a lot of people were putting forth their own agendas.

You see, I saw a righteous will of The LORD, a promise, I saw what will happen if, the Body of Christ in the USA prays for this anointing of a King Maker to fulfil its purpose.”

The video of this has been removed from Youtube since the election results became available.

On Kenneth Copeland’s Victory Channel the day before the election Pastor Hank Kunneman, a Victory regular, applied Elijah’s Victory over the prophets of Baal to the midterms on their “Flashpoint” show. Somehow, because the Elijah story happened at midday, it is linked to the midterms.

“Watch this the midday or what we will say the midterm and all of a sudden at the midterm it looked like there wasn’t really anything significant that was going to give Elijah and God or the people, of Victory.

“But the Bible says in First Kings 18 after the midday or after the midterm, there was a turning point and things began to shift into the time of the evening sacrifice three hours later or a little bit of time after the midday things began to be divinely interrupted by God and I believe that that is a prophetic narrative and a sign of what is coming for our country as God continues to turn this country back around and back to him again.”

This prophecy contained an “out.” In a “Were we wrong?” Flashpoint special the Victory channel says that their predicted revival is “after the midday”. In a similar manner, they gave themselves an “out” two tears ago saying their “Trump will win in 2020″prediction included some months it might take to reverse that election. Which did not happen.

Pastor Paula White – the preacher who has claimed Donald Trump is saved and who is part of his team of spiritual advisers – was the next guest. “Hank I agree with you that this is that mid part that there is an uprising and as we pray fervently and continue to fast, we’re just going to see a complete, I believe restoration or recovery … and God is faithful he will not be mocked in this.”

Pastor Terri Copeland, (Kenneth Copeland’s eldest daughter) when asked about “Brother Copeland being on the stage with President Trump” said, “if you look at the Scripture and you see the anointing on a king and the anointing on a prophet and it’s very powerful when they come together and those two anointings mix then it becomes something that you can’t get from just one and the other but when they come together, there’s it’s like a third anointing that’s created … and it takes hold and can sweep across a nation and of course that’s happening in by faith and in prayer in a lot of ways.”

Asked about what to expect from the election Pastor Hank Kunneman takes it further “Well it’s what we’ve been saying and that is that God is saving America…. here’s why we need to pay attention to brother Copeland praying with President Trump at that moment because I don’t know any higher level prophet than brother Kenneth Copeland, my father in the faith. And when he prayed what people need to realise it’s like with Nathan when he came to David he brought the court of Heaven  down and when brother Copeland prayed and said ‘you’re our God and we are your people’ as a prophet he brought the court of Heaven what that means is God is checking off the list and now watch this at the time just like the Red Sea. In the middle of the Red Sea God drowned the Egyptians the verdict will be declared and God is going to continue to act and he’s going to give our country back to us”.
Apart from questions of failed prophecies, placing the United States in the place of Israel, and applying the Old Testament promises to the US appears to be a theme of the Victory Channel.

The character of God, as revealed in Jesus would seem a surer Biblical basis for thinking through current politics. God does love his people and does answer prayer. He is faithful and will not be mocked. But has he got a special plan for the United States? Has he anointed Donald Trump in a special way? No more than the rest of humanity who have the same path to salvation, peace and life with him.
