Kamala Harris failed to catch a wave in 2020. But 2024 could be very different.
Sydney Catholic theologian Neil Ormerod suggested some reasons similar to the Harris ad in a letter to the Sydney Morning Herald.
“The Christian rhetoric swirling around the Trump camp should cause Christians to cringe. Trump seeks vengeance, Jesus preached forgiveness. Trump covets wealth, Jesus blessed the poor. Trump’s life is full of adultery and sexual abuse, Jesus preached purity of heart. Trump loves adulation, Jesus chose the hard road of suffering and death. Unfortunately politics has deteriorated to attack advertisements. Nowhere, more so than America.
It’s easy to have an opinion about both candidates, however the only one that will count will be made clear by the way Americans vote.
Hopefully, some of the cultural imperialism of the US will fade here in Australia and a greater degree of civility prevail.
