Dara Singh serving a life sentence for the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons, Philip and Timothy will stay in jail after his plea for release was turned down.
India Today reports that ”The Odisha State Sentence Review Board rejected Dara Singh’s plea for premature release at its August 31 meeting, saying it was not inclined to recommend his release at this stage after the Supreme Court directed the state government to take a decision on his request.”
”The matter is scheduled to come up before the Supreme Court again on September 17.
“Earlier in April, Mahendra Hembram, an aide of Bajrang Dal activist Dara Singh and one of the convicts in the murder case walked out of Odisha’s Keonjhar jail after 25 years.”
The decision followed Supreme Court criticism of Odisha’s state government for delaying a decision.
